Older than the Monogram itself, Louis Vuitton’s presence in London dates back to 1885. One of the largest Louis Vuitton stores in Europe is to be found at 17-18 New Bond Street, London. However, the grand opening of this store in 2010 was not the first time that Louis Vuitton opened its doors onto the fashionable Mayfair passage. Coincidently, in 1900 the third London store for the luxury brand was inaugurated just up the road at 149 New Bond Street.
This New Bond Street store has been seen as the most luxurious Louis Vuitton store in the world. With reason as it was conceived as the home of a collector with works by Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, a self portrait by Gilbert and George and a personalised trunk by Damien Hirst. This affinity with art and collectors is somehow fitting for the location, recalling the history of the street itself. In the eighteenth century, auction houses were the first to establish themselves on New Bond Street, closely followed by jewelry and fashion houses.
